Demob Happy are back baby! New track ‘Less Is More’ just dropped, proving the band are as vital and unhinged as ever. It’s really impressive that they somehow seem to have gotten heavier as a three-piece than they were in the early days with more guitars. Reliably they’ve also avoided the pitfalls of predictability, showing us just how much fun can be had with three minutes and a fat riff, without surrendering to the formulaic conventions that litter rock’s history of also-rans. Coming just six months on from their excellent Holy Doom album, which we described as “an album that smacks you hard in the face with the first listen, then gently caresses your blood-soaked hair and coos in your ear when you return for more”, and three months on from their tour supporting Jack White, the group show no signs of slowing the pace.
We’re pumped for their return to Brighton, with a headline date at Concorde 2 promising to be their biggest show yet in their adopted hometown. Support comes from Brighton buzz-bands Heirloom and Sick Joy, showing they’ve still got a lot of love for the local scene, even as they ascend to the upper echelons of rock groups who can tour the world. See you down the front!
