The Brighton-based label and record store, Mr. Bongo, continues its good work with the forthcoming release of Ghanaian legend Ebo Taylor’s new album, Yen Ara, out 6th April.
An infectious fusion of highlife, disco, funk, and afro-folk, it’s an extraordinary album from an extraordinary 81-year-old, a man who has been producing and playing since the late 50s.
Mr Bongo are also heavily involved with this year’s Record Store Day, 21st April. As well as a plethora of special releases for that day, Auntie Flo (founder of the label of the same name, and resident DJ at the infamous Highlife parties), will be performing in the store, Gloucester Road, followed by a club session later that night, at Patterns, along with Banoffee Pies DJs, Faro, Headcount, Mr Bongo DJs, and Auntie Flo once more. The party swings into action at 11pm, terminating at 4am.
