100 More Artists for The Great Escape Festival

The Great Escape Festival is, without a doubt, the greatest weekend of the Brighton calendar. Thousands of bands, artists and industry people get together for a huge celebration of new music from a dizzying array of genres in one of the best cities in the country. Taking place across the entire city, in venues, bars, hotels, on the street and even on the beach, it’s a music fan’s dream come true. The festival is just a mere four months away now, too, and the music announcements are starting to make their way towards us.

With 100 artists just announced, including huge names from the worlds of grime, indie and pop, we thought we’d take a look at some of the artists we’re most excited about. Arguably the biggest name on the line-up is English rapper and grime MC AJ Tracey, who is set to play a headline show at Concorde 2 and drop his debut album before the festival, while the likes of ace Superorganism supports CHAI, Palma Violets off-shoot Gently Tender and lo-fi soul band Children of Zeus, certainly look like ones to watch.

Our main two picks, however, fall to two of the brightest rising stars in indie today. Haze, who have just dropped a brilliant new single in the form of ‘Piochitas’ and have impressed us with support slots for Whenyoung and Phobophobes recently, look set to take on the post-punk mantle left by Idles as they enter the mainstream. Likewise Sports Team, fresh from a huge headline showcase at Scala last year, as well as a huge upcoming tour which hits Patterns in March, are one of the most exciting indie bands the UK has to offer.

Once again, The Great Escape Festival has inundated us with brilliant music and we just can’t wait until May arrives. We’ll see you on the beach.
