This years' One Inch Badge's 'Sea Monsters' Festival was an early entry in my diary after being enticed by the fantastic line-up featuring; Abi Wade + The Holy Vessels/Plasticine/Jacko Hooper.

The night opened with the wonderfully delicate Jacko Hooper. With a beautiful voice that lingers in the air like cigarette smoke from a 1950's film, Hooper captures the audience with his gentle melodies and lyrics that tell poetic tales of love and lost love.

My favorite song on the night was 'Roaming' which brings to the mind images of travelling on long journeys. His voice, reminiscent of Jeff Buckley with a hint of Sinatra, makes Brighton born and bred Jacko Hooper utterly unique.

I'm a big fan of Hooper and have been watching his journey since he started out back in 2010. Since then he has grown to become one of Brighton's biggest hidden treasures. Here is one young man to watch out for in 2013 as we're expecting big things for him. You can see him live at our next gig at The Hoxton Square B&K (London) on the 13th March 2013.

The Holy Vessels took to the stage later on in the evening with a plethora of belting harmonies and incredibly catchy melodies. After reading their interview in Brighton Source I'd been looking forward to making it down to one of their gigs. The Holy Vessels won the audiences hearts with their upbeat songs and fantastic energy. My favorite track of the night was 'Jaycee'. This track beautifully highlighted The Holy Vessels' skillful harmonies and reminded me of an interesting mix of Alberta Cross and Dylan. Their debut album 'Last Orders at The Marshall Arms' is out now and is highly recommended.

Whilst I had never seen Abi Wade before, she's been getting quite a reputation for herself in Brighton and I had been meaning to catch one of her gigs for a while. By the time she got on the stage, the venue was completely packed in anticipation. You could hardly breath, let alone move in the room is was that rammed. Abi Wade is a one-woman-band; with tambourine and bass drum at her feet, a cello at her breast and lungs bursting with song – it's a wonder she can multi-task that much at once! It worked though, and to great effect too. Her voice sounds beautifully fragile and almost dissonant, but this all adds to the incredibly stunning and unique sound she has.

During her song 'Faker' she used a stick like instrument to strike her cello and it's strings which the added interesting rhythms and layers to her music creating an orchestral sound – all this power coming from just one incredibly talented musician. Her EP And Blood and Air is out now and is recommended by BrightonsFinest.
