The first band I saw on the night was the eloquently named Black Rooster Black Shag. Made up by an award-winning songstress Mirika, from Canada’s windy north (bass and vocals), London based songwriter and producer JJ Symon (guitar and vocals), and Dan Brown (drums) from the band Sweet Sweet Lies.
Live Reviews
Passenger – The Brighton Dome – 8th & 9th November 2014
The story is becoming well known. Mike Rosenberg was in receipt of a substantial development deal, and for a few years toiled away with his band, Passenger. While they made some progress, it was nowhere near enough and the plug was eventually pulled… Subsequently, Rosenberg had to make a…
The Kooks – Brighton Dome – 7th November 2014
Brighton are their musical roots and Brighton remains a home from home for The Kooks, the sometimes underrated band who attracted interest from management almost from the off (a gig at Prince Albert, I believe) such was the strength of their songs, the charisma of lead singer and songwriter…
Ben Frost – The Haunt – 10th November 2014
As Ben Frost emerges from the wings of the stage, I could feel that sense of anticipation amongst the crowd, as though they were waiting for an epiphany. As Frost placed the strap of his guitar over his shoulder, I felt a bubble of excitement emerge within my core; I…
Asking Alexandria – The Brighton Centre – 9th November 2014
Seeing Asking Alexandria playing their first show ever in Brighton at The Brighton Centre is a real treat for all the local metal heads, especially after the successful Breakout festival earlier in the year. Brighton's metal fans have never had it so good.
Jungle – Concorde 2 – 3rd November 2014
I bought Jungle tickets at the beginning of the year, and it’s lucky I did as they sold out in mere weeks. I hadn’t heard any of their music before then, but a mate I had spoken too couldn’t speak more highly of them. In 2013, no-one had any idea…
Sharon Jones – The Brighton Dome – 29th October 2014
Lee Fields couldn’t have been a more ideal support for Sharon Jones as they go way back. Sharron was a regular gospel and local backing singer whilst she worked as a correctional officer at Rykers Island prison in New York. It was only in 1996 when she took a mid-career…
The Delta Bell – The Brunswick – 30th October 2014
I went down to the Brunswick to see Overhead Wire’s monthly music night ‘Dirty Fingernails’ as I’d heard about the event and wanted to catch some new local acts. The Delta Bell, who were headlining the night, played an array of classic country numbers which, true to the style of…
Oxjam Worthing Takeover – 2014
Back in the 1960s Worthing was a key stop off point for music’s best performers, accommodating greats like Jimmy Hendrix, The Who and Cream. But since that era [them glory days of British music], Worthing mainly hosts only revival bands from yester year and classical music all aimed at an…
Bootleg Festival Part 2 – 2014
Taking over from Adam Kidd, who had covered the first two days of the festival, I headed down to The Albert still not sure what to expect and arrived there just as Jack Harris was getting ready to start. He certainly has an intehich iresting set ws made up of…
