After tickets selling out within an hour of them being available, I was one of the lucky ones who managed to get their hands on a golden ticket to see the highly anticipated FKA Twigs at the Dome Studio. This was the first show of the tour and she certainly set the bar high with a performance that made the hairs on the back of your neck stand up and had her haunting vocals swirling round your head for days after.

I was clear from the start that the entire set had been incredibly well planned and rehearsed in order to give the best possible effect with the clever use of stage design, lighting and performance. FKA Twigs used large, old fashioned light bulbs which were suspended around the stage and pulsated in time to the music along with classic, atmospheric dry ice and incredibly well rehearsed dance moves which all added together to create the illusionary and mystical world in which FKA Twigs was the core.
FKA Twigs had three other members on stage with her who were all releasing electronic samples and smashing out beats which looked especially impressive when they all performed in unison – and, whilst it was a shame that they were very much pushed to the side and purposefully set in low light, it drew our eyes to the main visual of the show and reason why we were all there – for FKA Twigs.
Even when FKA Twigs, wasn’t dancing – every move she made acted as a graceful dance move and it’s not surprising considering that both of her parents are trained dancers. Before FKA Twigs became an artist in her own right, she drew the interest of major artists such as Jessie J, Kylie Minogue, Ed Sheeran and many others who had head hunted her to be a backing dancer for both music videos and live shows.
Not only was her physical performance excellent, but FKA Twig’s live vocals were album worthy and didn’t falter throughout the set. However, I must admit that whilst the performance and the whole show was astonishing, it was an extremely serious and highly intense gig, to the point that I only felt I could breath once I left the venue. Whilst I understand (and fully agree) that this is all part of FKA Twigs’ mystique and image I came out of the show feeling both dazed and in awe of what I’d just witnessed and it took me some time to gather my thoughts on the show.

BrightonsFinest.com fully recommends you see FKA Twigs live when she comes back to Brighton, although – best to keep a beady eye out for tickets as we’re sure it’ll be sold out within minutes.
