Travis - Brighton Dome - Wednesday 20th June 2018

Travis - Brighton Dome - Wednesday 20th June 2018

There is nothing like the sudden realisation that a beloved album is approaching a landmark age to jolt you out of your complacency. So it is with The Man Who, the album that defined the early 00’s for many (3 million copies sold, 11 weeks at number one in the charts). Now, nineteen years later, Travis will be performing the album in its entirety at a special show at Brighton Dome.

Travis were inescapable in those early days of a new century, a time that already feels like an aeon ago with its positivity and promise. The quartet of Fran Healy, Andy Dunlop, Dougie Payne and Neil Primrose graced the front cover of every music magazine - Fran even had a haircut named after him due to its ubiquity around East London area. With a string of hit singles that wriggled into ears around the world, ‘Why Does It Always Rain On Me?’, ‘Driftwood’ and ‘Turn’, there was no stopping the Travis juggernaut until the band themselves seemed to make a conscious effort to turn away from the mainstream - letting the likes of Coldplay and Snow Patrol in to fill that particular niche of well-crafted, impeccable ‘indie’ pop.

For one night though, the years will be rolled back and these songs that marked and defined an entire generation will be lovingly embraced once more, transporting everyone back to the heady days of a promising new century. Support comes from Turin Brakes, making a perfect combination for sure.

Tickets : £30 venue
