Brighton's own, and the latest in a long-line of projects from the mind of Mercury Prize nominated Electric Soft Parade frontman Thomas White, The Fiction Aisle bring together a fine assortment of Brighton's best musicians to create a truly glorious sound. It's epic, progressive pop of the highest level. The Fiction Aisle released their debut album, Heart Map Rubric, late in 2015 on Thomas's own label imprint (Chord Orchard), garnering 6Music's attention alongside a slew of glowing reviews for both the album and their live shows. Combining a love of classic song-writing, with hints of jazz and lounge, alongside schizophrenic nose-dives into the heavier territory explored by 70s prog rock, this unique group are not to be missed. The Fiction Aslie

Originally only available on CD and digital, the album Heart Map Rubric is now available for the first time on double vinyl from Brightonsfinest Presents. This special edition includes the original album, The Dream EP (featuring a selection of songs from their limited edition second album Fuchsia Days), and a new single version of album track 'Outskirts'. Thomas' band Electric Soft Parade were Mercury Music Prize nominated on their debut album Holes In The Wall, produced by Chris Hughes and Mark Frith. Thomas reunited with the same production team to record 'Outskirts (Revisited)' specially for this release.

  • St Ann's Well Gardens Spring Festival – 12th May 2018

St Ann's Well Gardens Spring Festival – 12th May 2018 St Ann's Well Gardens Spring Festival – 12th May 2018 It’s quite typically English isn’t it. Two weeks of beautiful sunshine and then, on the day of the outside festival, the heavens open. Solid rain from start to finish too. It’s a real shame really as this year’s music line-up was one of the best they have had at St Ann's Well Gardens Spring Festival.
  • The Alternative Escape announces line-up

The Alternative Escape announces line-up The Alternative Escape is to The Great Escape what the Brighton Fringe is to the Brighton Festival. Open access, rather than programmed. However, that doesn't mean that the quality isn't there. Indeed, because The Great Escape is relatively restricted in terms of numbers, The Alternative Escape offers great opportunities for labels, management companies, media organisations (such as yours truly), promoters, agencies and the like to organise their own shows, in venues they see fit but still have the benefits of being promoted within The Great Escape publicity machine, via their website and printed programme. Many acts crossover, playing both TGE and TAE within the three days of the event. So, the quality is often very high.

Never one to sit still, they've just released a live album, the simply titled Live Underground. Recorded less than a month ago in Eastbourne's Underground Theatre, as part of a three-day festival organised by The Magic Numbers, the album features songs from their three previous albums. • The Fiction Aisle – Jupiter, Florida

The Fiction Aisle - Jupiter, Florida The Fiction Aisle – Jupiter, Florida Thomas White is a bit of a legend around these parts. Not only is he the co-founder of psych-pop band Electric Soft Parade and the guitarist in Brakes, but the scarily prolific and consistent musician is the creative honcho behind The Fiction Aisle, the multi-band project lead by White. Described by White as “A cross between a jazz band of the 1930s and a psych-rock group of the 1970s”, he’s back with his third album in just two years and it’s a hugely enjoyable listen with yet more melancholic ambience.
  • The Fiction Aisle – Komedia Studio – 27th July 2017

The Fiction Aisle - Komedia Studio - 27th July 2017 The Fiction Aisle – Komedia Studio – 27th July 2017 Celebrating the vinyl re-release of 2015’s Heart Map Rubric, and having wrapped up the recording of their third album, this was the perfect opportunity to catch The Fiction Aisle at a beautifully intimate show at Komedia Studios. The band is the brainchild of former Electric Soft Parade leader Thomas White, who has pulled together some of Brighton’s finest musicians into one of the most interesting prospects on the local scene at present. In a room sparsely lit by candlelight, anticipation was high from a passionate and vocal group of fans.
  • The Great Escape Festival 2017 - 18th-20th May 2017

The Great Escape Festival 2017 - 18th-20th May 2017 The Great Escape Festival 2017 -  18th-20th May 2017 Another year, and another huge comedown after the exhilaration of three days of heady music, heavy bodily abuse, and heaving bodies. It’s kind of the same as a festival in a field, minus the camping, and the mud. There are more than 450 performances on over 30 stages, played out to an overall audience of 20,000. Like a traditional festival, there is plenty of schlepping from one stage to the next, re-fuelling at various points, staying up too late and getting up too early. Crucially though, almost everyone is here to actually watch and listen to music, and everyone has a real...
  • The Great Escape - 2017

The Great Escape - 2017 The Great Escape 2017 Playlist chosen by Adam Ryan - Main Great Escape Festival programmer Now entering its twelfth year, The Great Escape (TGE) goes from strength to strength and continues to be an established and much loved showcase for new music from around the world. In a time when heritage acts and old timers are increasingly exploiting our hard earned spare cash, TGE is an island of freshness, surrounded by the (sometimes pleasingly, it has to be admitted) stench of artists rolling out the hits once again, taking away valuable exposure to new music. And contrary to some...
  • Brightonsfinest Alternative Escape Show 2017

Brightonsfinest Alternative Escape Show 2017 Brightonsfinest are excited to announce our latest Alternative Escape showcase at St. Mary's Church. It's our third year running a free entry stage, offering a killer line-up that's open to the public and Great Escape festival goers alike. We're pretty proud to be able to say the line-ups that we've curated have rivaled the official festival stages, whilst offering bills with more of a local focus, and this year is no different. Brighton headliners The Fiction Aisle create epic progressive pop that seems perfectly pitched to soar up into the high rafters of this year's venue: the beautiful gothic setting of St Mary The Virgin in Kemptown. We're excited to be...

  • The Fiction Aisle - Unitarian Church – 27th November 2015

The Fiction Aisle The Fiction Aisle - Unitarian Church – 27th November 2015 The Fiction Aisle have become one of my favourite acts of 2015. When hearing ‘Blue’ on BBC 6 Music off the same named EP, I instantly became obsessed with this jazz tinged orchestrated lounge music and went on the hunt to find out more of their exquisite unique sound. Thankfully, The Fiction Aisle are one of Brighton’s own, being the latest project by the Mercury Prize nominated Electric Soft Parade frontman Thomas White who has brought together a fine assortment of Brighton’s best musicians to create a truly glorious body of sound. On Thomas’s own label imprint, Chord Orchard, The Fiction Aisle released their debut album Heart Map Rubric on the day of this show which was being celebrated in...

The Fiction Aisle – Heart Map Rubric The Fiction Aisle - Heart Map Rubric The Fiction Aisle is quite a new name to the Brighton scene but the man behind it already has an extremely impressive string of releases. • At The Edge of the Sea – Concorde 2 – 2015-08-29

At The Edge of the Sea 2015 - Concorde 2 At The Edge of the Sea – Concorde 2 – 29th - 30th August 2015 The Edge Of The Sea festival is quite unlike most festivals you will have been to. Firstly it's a two day festival at the Concorde 2 running from 3pm till 10pm with almost non stop music. Last year was the first time I experienced it and in fact had not really heard of it before then. Which is not surprising as it has a very 'word of mouth' feel about it. Almost like a secret society that get together every year. At last years event I did not know much about the bands preforming and was not quite sure what to expect, this year I still don't know much about the bands playing but I knew what to expect... Two days of great music at the Concorde 2 full of people there to appreciate the music.
  • Becky Becky - The Martha Gunn - 7th Febuaray 2015

Becky Becky - The Martha Gunn - 7th Febuaray 2015 Becky Becky - The Martha Gunn - 7th Febuaray 2015 I arrived at the newly refurbished Martha Gunn for round one of it's bout to decide whether or not to host regular live music nights – it's not often a potential new venue opens it's doors in our city, despite the vibrancy of the scene, so I was keen to see what sort of a set up they were offering. I'd never been in the Martha Gunn before, having thought it was a bit of a rough pub and slightly off the beaten track. When I arrived they were still setting up the PA but the pub seemed light, warm and inviting. Opening up proceedings we had Thomas White, playing under The Fiction Aisle moniker. It's likely you might have come across White before, as he is one of the most prolific musical forces in town along with...
